To Crease or Not To Crease? That is the Question?

Reader Nicole asks:

I love your website and hope to visit often. Could I presume on my very brief acquaintanceship to ask the question that I’ve been wrestling with? I’ve been told that pant creases are a bit nerdy these days, is that true? I’ve always thought that the creases made me look taller and slimmer. I’ve entered the realm of being a woman of a “certain age” and don’t want to look like I’m stuck somewhere in yesteryear. So … to crease or not to crease? What’s your verdict?

Creases create vertical lines, so they are one more tool in your box of tricks to elongate your legs.

Creases are great on dress pants (trousers), but should be avoided on jeans, denim is not a fabric that should be pressed into submission, it’s too casual for creases.

Sure, every now and again there is a trend to wear creased jeans, but trends like this usually work best on the under 30s set, otherwise it can make you look old fashioned.

Comments

  1. I like a crease on trousers but never on jeans. My ex always like his jeans starched and creased but then he never got out of the 80s.

  2. "Pressed into submission"- I love it!

  3. Even thought I don't wear them I do remember that creases on jeans is a huge no no.

Creases in dress pants, like those for suits look smart creased. The look more professional and as you pointed out, add that wonderful lengthening, slimming vertical line.
